Europe’s most valuable private technology companies span fintech, artificial intelligence, defence, energy and enterprise software. But their valuations are far from evenly distributed.
The 20 companies in our dataset have a combined valuation of $351.1 billion. Revolut alone accounts for $115 billion of that total, while a growing group of AI and AI-infrastructure companies is beginning to reshape the rest of the ranking.

THE BIG PICTURE
Europe’s private tech value is concentrated at the top
The visual immediately reveals just how uneven Europe’s private technology landscape has become. Revolut occupies almost a third of the entire chart, while the five largest companies together represent more than half of the value shown.
But underneath that concentration, the composition of European tech is changing. AI model developers such as Mistral AI and Lovable now sit alongside a new infrastructure layer represented by Fluidstack and Nscale. Defence technology has also produced an $18 billion company in Helsing.
Revolut is in a category of its own
At $115 billion, Revolut is by far Europe’s most valuable private technology company.
Its valuation is approximately 4.7 times that of second-placed Mistral AI at $24.4 billion, and Revolut alone represents 32.8% of the combined valuation of the companies in our top 20.
That concentration is important when reading the chart. Europe’s fintech sector appears exceptionally large partly because one company has reached a scale that no other private European technology company currently approaches.
AI is becoming Europe’s second technology story
The companies immediately below Revolut tell a different story.
Mistral AI is now valued at $24.4 billion, making it the second-largest company in the ranking. Its valuation has risen dramatically from $260 million at its 2023 seed round, according to Multiples.vc’s funding history.
But Europe’s AI story extends beyond model developers.
Fluidstack and Nscale are building computing infrastructure for AI workloads, while ElevenLabs specialises in synthetic voice and Wayve is applying machine learning to autonomous driving.
Using the classifications in our dataset, these AI-related businesses collectively account for approximately $89.9 billion, or 25.6% of the top 20’s combined valuation.
AI ISN’T JUST SOFTWARE
Fluidstack and Nscale alone represent $32.6 billion of value, illustrating how capital is moving into the infrastructure required to train and operate AI.
Fintech still controls the biggest pool of value
AI may be producing many of Europe’s fastest-rising private companies, but fintech remains extremely important at the top of the ranking.
Revolut, Trade Republic, Checkout.com, N26 and SumUp all appear in the top 20, alongside Blockchain.com where our dataset uses the broader Crypto / Fintech classification.
Fintech’s position is heavily influenced by Revolut. Remove the $115 billion company and the sector’s visual dominance becomes considerably less pronounced.

Britain has an outsized presence
Geographically, the ranking is heavily concentrated. Multiples.vc’s wider top-50 European ranking contains 17 UK companies, compared with eight from Germany and six from France.
The UK also occupies several very different parts of the technology stack: Revolut and Checkout.com in payments, Fluidstack and Nscale in AI infrastructure, Wayve in autonomous driving, Octopus Energy and Kraken in energy technology, and DAZN in digital media.
Its strength therefore isn’t confined to a single technology category.
Germany provides another important cluster, including Helsing, Trade Republic, Celonis and N26, while France’s position near the top is driven primarily by the rapid rise of Mistral AI.
THE GEOGRAPHY OF VALUE
The UK doesn’t just contribute the largest company. It has businesses represented across fintech, AI infrastructure, energy, autonomous driving, software and media.
Europe’s emerging tech strengths look different from its established giants
This ranking only covers private companies, which produces a very different picture from a ranking of European technology overall.
Public companies such as ASML and SAP are much larger. Multiples.vc’s broader European technology ranking puts ASML at $667 billion and SAP at $241 billion as of September 2026.
The private-company ranking instead offers a view of where newer pools of European technology value are forming.
Fintech remains prominent, but AI models, AI infrastructure, defence technology, autonomous driving and climate technology now occupy substantial parts of the chart.
That makes the graphic less a picture of Europe’s technology industry as a whole and more a snapshot of where private investors currently assign its largest valuations.
WHAT THE DATA TELLS US
Europe has produced a $115 billion private tech giant. The bigger question is what comes next.
Revolut’s enormous valuation makes the current ranking unusually concentrated, but the businesses developing underneath it are becoming more diverse.
Mistral AI has rapidly emerged as Europe’s most valuable private AI company. Fluidstack and Nscale show that substantial valuations are also being attached to the infrastructure behind AI. Helsing demonstrates the emergence of defence technology, while established European strengths in fintech and enterprise software remain visible throughout the ranking.
The result is a European private technology market with one exceptional leader — and a much broader contest developing beneath it.
About the data
This analysis uses Multiples.vc’s 50 Most Valuable Private Companies in Europe — September 2026, last updated 1 September 2026, with the top 20 companies extracted for the visualization. The source ranks private European technology companies using their latest disclosed or heavily reported valuations.
Private-company valuations should not be interpreted in the same way as continuously traded public-company market capitalisations. Multiples.vc says its private transaction data combines public information, third-party data and manual verification; where necessary, reported valuations are used, and figures are harmonised into US dollars.
For the Voronoi, each company’s area is proportional to its USD valuation. Sector colours are Numera Atlas classifications designed to make related businesses visually comparable.
