Numera Atlas

Humanity, by the numbers

About Numera Atlas

Humanity, by the numbers.

The world generates more data than ever before. Yet understanding what those numbers mean — and how they shape our lives — isn’t always straightforward.

Numera Atlas exists to make complex information clearer, more accessible and more meaningful.

We are an independent digital publication exploring the trends, patterns and changes shaping our world through data journalism and visual storytelling.

From economic shifts and emerging technologies to public health, energy, society and the environment, we use maps, charts, infographics and concise editorial analysis to reveal the stories behind the statistics.

Making data meaningful

Numbers rarely tell the whole story on their own.

A country’s economic growth can conceal regional inequality. A global average can obscure extraordinary differences between populations. And a dramatic headline can miss the longer-term trend.

We aim to provide the context needed to understand these differences.

Our approach combines three elements:

  • Evidence: Drawing on identifiable datasets, official statistics, research and other credible sources.
  • Visualisation: Transforming complex information into clear, accessible graphics that make comparisons easier to understand.
  • Context: Explaining what the numbers show, why they matter and where their limitations lie.

What we cover

Our editorial coverage spans six areas:

Economy — Growth, trade, employment, wealth and the changing distribution of economic opportunity.

Technology — Innovation, digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence and the technologies transforming everyday life.

Health — Population health, healthcare systems, disease, wellbeing and medical progress.

Society — Demographics, education, inequality, migration and the forces shaping communities.

Environment — Climate change, biodiversity, pollution, natural resources and environmental change.

Energy — Electricity, fuels, renewable energy, infrastructure and the global energy transition.

Our editorial principles

We believe data journalism should be understandable without sacrificing accuracy.

Our aim is to present information fairly, distinguish evidence from interpretation, and acknowledge uncertainty where it exists.

We do not believe that every complex issue can be reduced to a single number or chart. Good visual journalism should help readers ask better questions, not simply offer easy answers.

An evolving atlas

Numera Atlas is built around the idea that the world is constantly changing — and that visual evidence can help us understand that change.

We will continue to develop our coverage, improve our visualisations and refine our approach as new information becomes available.

Explore the world through data. Discover the stories behind the numbers.
